History
Recognizing a critical need for post-high school training for students with developmental disorders, Brehm Preparatory School, founded by Carol Brehm in 1982, initiated OPTIONS Transitions to Independence in 1994. This program was inspired by Carol Brehm’s dedication to creating an educational environment tailored to the unique needs of her son Tyson and others like him.
Timeline:
1994 – 1999: Planting Seeds
OPTIONS began its journey, addressing the gap in post-high school training and support for students with developmental disorders, laying the groundwork for a program focused on fostering independence and self-reliance.
1999 – 2008: Expanding Outward
As the program grew, OPTIONS moved from the Brehm main campus to the historic Bening Building in downtown Carbondale, expanding its facilities and resources to better serve its students.
2008 – Present: OPTIONS in Full Bloom
Reaching its full capacity at Lewis Lane, OPTIONS benefited from a generous giving incentive, allowing the construction of a state-of-the-art facility at 900 South Brehm Lane. Today, OPTIONS continues to thrive, providing vital support and training to empower students to achieve independence and success throughout their lives.
