INVESTING IN INDEPENDENCE, GROWTH, AND LONG-TERM OUTCOMES

At OPTIONS Transitions to Independence, tuition reflects a comprehensive program designed to support young adults with learning differences as they develop the skills needed for independent adult life.

OPTIONS is not a single service or class. It is an integrated transition program that combines:

  • academic development and executive functioning support

  • vocational training and real-world work experiences

  • independent living instruction in apartment-style housing

  • communication development and therapeutic supports

These elements work together to help students build the skills necessary for long-term independence.

Families invest in OPTIONS not only for the year of programming, but for the long-term outcomes that follow.

What Families Receive in a Year at OPTIONS

OPTIONS is a comprehensive transition program designed to support students across academics, independent living, vocational development, and communication.

Tuition reflects a full year of coordinated support across the environments where independence is built.

Academic & Executive Functioning Support

Students receive individualized academic instruction, study skills coaching, executive functioning support, and ongoing progress monitoring.

This support helps students strengthen learning strategies and academic independence.

Independent Living & Daily Life Skills

Students live in apartment-style housing while developing practical life skills such as cooking, routines, budgeting, organization, and self-management.

These experiences help students practice independence in real environments.

Vocational Training & Real-World Experience

Students explore career interests, participate in internships, and develop workplace communication, responsibility, and readiness through structured vocational support.

Integrated, Individualized Support

Students benefit from a low student-to-staff ratio, cross-team collaboration, one-on-one coaching, and support that adjusts based on readiness, goals, and progress.

Why This Matters

At OPTIONS, tuition supports more than instruction alone.

It supports a coordinated transition model where academic growth, independent living, vocational development, and communication support work together to help students build the skills required for adult life.

This integrated structure allows students to move toward greater independence with intentional support and accountability.

How Families Evaluate the Investment

Families exploring OPTIONS are often comparing more than tuition. They are evaluating what kind of support their young adult needs now in order to build greater independence later.

For many families, the question is not simply whether support is needed, but whether the support is:

  • comprehensive enough to address academics, independence, and adult readiness together

  • individualized enough to respond to the student’s actual strengths and challenges

  • structured enough to help progress happen consistently across the year

  • connected enough to support long-term outcomes beyond the program

OPTIONS is designed for families who want to invest in capacity, not dependence.

The goal is to help students build the systems, habits, confidence, and supportable independence that can reduce the need for more intensive services in the future.

A Highly Individualized Program

OPTIONS maintains a low student-to-staff ratio so that students receive personalized guidance and support.

This allows for:

  • one-on-one coaching

  • frequent communication between staff members

  • collaboration across academic, residential, and vocational teams

  • adjustments based on student readiness and progress

Students are known as individuals and supported intentionally as they build independence at their own pace.

Potential Tax-Deductible Expenses

In certain circumstances, tuition at OPTIONS may qualify as a deductible medical care expense under Section 213 of the Internal Revenue Code because the program provides specialized educational and therapeutic support.

Important Note:
Tax eligibility varies depending on individual circumstances.

Families should consult with a qualified tax professional or attorney to determine eligibility and ensure compliance with applicable tax regulations.

OPTIONS can provide documentation to support this process when appropriate.

Beyond Tuition — Long-Term Outcomes

Families invest in OPTIONS not just for immediate support, but for the long-term outcomes that follow.

Students often leave the program with:

  • greater independence in daily life

  • improved self-advocacy and communication skills

  • increased academic or vocational stability

  • stronger executive functioning and life skills

  • reduced reliance on intensive support services

The goal of the program is not dependence — it is capacity and independence.

Families as Partners

Families remain important partners throughout the transition process.

Parents receive:

  • regular communication and progress updates

  • structured conferences and planning meetings

  • collaboration around independence goals and next steps

This partnership ensures families remain informed and involved while students gradually take increasing ownership of their lives.
